The Department of Teaching Philosophy, Sociology and Pscychology is established by head of Prof. Dr. Altan Eserpek from linked Educatinal Science in 1984. The department has an importance not only being first in Cukurova University but also being first in Turkey. This department with the same name is only in three universities in Turkey. Our first students gratuated in 1989.
About the Department
The department has over 200 bachelors degree students with nearly up to 40 students graduate each year. Also 40 new students enroll every year through entrance exams based on admission to higher education (LYS-YGS).
The language of education is Turkish. Bachelors degree lasts 5 years and 2 semesters per year, 15 weeks per. The dates of full time bachelors degree and masters degree are;
Fall Semester: Middle of September - Middle of January
Spring Semester: Middle of February - Head of June
A Bachelors degree can be taken in three main subject on Philosophy, Sociology and Pscychology. The department has theorical philosophy, sciology and pscychology; current issues of philosophy, sciology, pscychology issues which contain multidisciplinarity of the humanities and social sciences. Also all students must complete teacher skill subjects with theoretical knowledge. In addition mandatory classes, students can take elective courses from three main fields that are related to their interested areas. (Subfields of the department are; culture, class and ethnic relation, research methods in social sciences, social change, philosophical hermeneutics, historicism, human rights, multi-culturalism, etc).
Aims of the Department
The main purpose of this program is educate students to be teachers of philosophy, sociology and psychology in high schools. The department also provide students with academic carreer. Graduate students might apply for master programs in the same department or in other related programs. Apart from study and getting job, the main aim of the education that is given in our department is training students who have critical and analytical thinking in social sciences and humanities.
Opportinity of Master
Under the Institute of Social Sciences master's degree program are admitted with 5 students each year. The department has several minor subjects for masters degree that can be chosen freely. Those are philosophy, sociology and pscychology. Graduate students from different disciplines can apply for masters degree in our department.

Felsefe Grubu Eğitimi Anabilim Dalı Felsefe, Sosyoloji, Psikoloji ve Mantık disiplinlerinin bir bireşimi şeklinde olup, Eğitim Bilimlerinden de destek almaktadır. Yani multidisipliner bir yapıdadır. Anabilim dalında bir profesör, üç yardımcı doçent, beş öğretim görevlisi ve iki araştırma görevlisi vardır. Anabilim dalında çalışan öğretim elemanlarının araştırma konuları; felsefe, mantık, psikoloji, sosyoloji ve siyaset olmak üzere sosyal bilimler eğitimi; örtük programlama, kültürel ve tarihsel düşünme, insan hakları ve eleştirel düşünme ile medya, yardım hizmetleri, eğitim yapıları, çok-kültürlülük ve sosyal-kültürel değişme üzerinedir.
Anabilim Dalının temel amacı, ortaöğretim kurumlarına uzman düzeyinde (M.C.) felsefe grubu öğretmeni yetiştirmektir. İlgili tinbilimleri alanlarında akademisyen yetiştirilmesine de katkı sunmaktadır.
Felsefe Grubu Öğretmenliği Programı, Prof. Dr. Altan Eserpek’in başkanlığında Eğitim Bilimleri Bölümü’ne bağlı olarak 1984’te kurulmuş (1985 yılında öğrenime başlamış) ve 1988’de Felsefe Grubu Eğitimi Bölümü’ne dönüşmüştür. Gerek program, gerekse bölüm yalnızca Üniversite’de değil, Türkiye’de de bir ilki oluşturmuştur.
1984’te açılan ve 1985 yılında öğrenime başlayan bölüm ilk mezunlarını 1989 yılında vermiştir. Mezunların bir kısmı sosyoloji, felsefe, psikoloji alanında akademik temel bilimlere yönelirken; büyük bir kısmı liselerde ve dershanelerde öğretmen olarak çalışmaktadır.
Felsefe Grubu Öğretmenliği Programı dört alt disiplinin bileşiminden oluşmaktadır. “Felsefe grubu” altında sosyoloji, psikoloji, mantık ve felsefe yer almaktadır. Akademik eğitim süresince bu disiplinlerin bir yandan temel tartışmaları, diğer yandan ortaöğretimle entegrasyonları dikkate alınmaktadır. Dolayısıyla bu alanlara “eğitim bilimlerini” de eklemek gerekmektedir.
Program temel ve seçmeli derslerden oluşmaktadır. Böyle bir ayrımlaşmaya; hem kişilerin öz-beceri ve ilgilerini sürdürebilmeleri, böylece belirli bir alanda uzmanlaşmanın sağlanabilmesi, hem de sorumluluk bilincinin geliştirilebilmesi amacıyla gidilmiştir. Program çeşitli alanlardan oluşmakla birlikte yine de felsefe, sosyoloji veya psikoloji ağırlıklı belirli bir uzmanlaşmanın sağlanabileceğine inanılmaktadır. Bu nedenle seçmeli derslerin bu üç alandan birinde derinleşecek şekilde tutarlılık içinde sürdürümü çok önemli sayılmaktadır.
